to give them a way to help a woman feel seen as a whole person, not managed as a problem

About this course

She says it's about her weight. It almost never is. More Than a Mirror gives you a whole-person way to hear what a woman is really asking — Will I be seen? Will I be loved? — and to help her find an answer that a mirror never could. One hour. One clock hour of NBCC CE. A framework you'll use in your next session.

Who this course is for

Counselors, therapists, pastoral counselors, spiritual directors, and campus ministers who sit across from women and girls in pain about their bodies

They are "hiring" this course to do one job: to give them a way to help a woman feel seen as a whole person, not managed as a problem.

Also for Spiritual directors and Catholic women's ministry leaders; Diocesan and campus-ministry mental-health initiatives.

From the course syllabus

She says it is about her weight. It almost never is. In this Divine Mercy University faculty roundtable, Harvey Payne, Psy.D., and a panel of philosophers, theologians, and clinicians take up a question that presses on the women and girls many of us accompany: why does the pressure to look a certain way fall so much harder on women, and what does a Catholic Christian understanding of the person offer in response? The course moves from the deep natural inclinations written into every person, through recent research on how men and women meet stress, to the truth the panel keeps returning to: a woman is never reducible to her appearance, and being truly seen and loved can make a person more fully herself. Practitioners leave with a whole-person framework for hearing what a woman is really asking and helping her find an answer no mirror could give.
